E-Flat Porch Band

December 18, 2009 • by Cafe Malaga

E-Flatters

The E-Flat Porch Band is named for the porch in McKinney, Texas where the members first practiced – it resonates to the key of E-Flat. Duane Brown and Rudy Littrell form the core of the band, entertaining with their unique blend of acoustic “porch music,” including folk, blues, early country, jazz and original tunes. As “angst-free” acoustic musicians, they play serious music without taking themselves too seriously. In fact, they have recently discovered that they are adult prodigies.
Their “porch music” is played on acoustic instruments and pays homage to our varied Texas musical roots. It is influenced by Country Blues, Texas folk music, Jazz and swing standards, and Depression Era country songwriters. Guitar playing styles include finger picking and slide guitar. Other instruments include the acoustic bass, harmonica, cymbal, and a drum-like instrument of their own design made out of a wooden soda pop box. This is a small band with a big sound–up to eight instruments will be heard at one time, along with harmonizing vocals.

Joel Foy

December 18, 2009 • by Cafe Malaga

Joel-FoySince exiting the Antarctic Program in 2004, I’ve relocated to Dallas, Texas dividing time between teaching, performing, and songwriting. My main occupation now seems to be home improvement around my property. I teach and do solo shows featuring a mix of acoustic post-war and pre-war figerstyle blues and rags, including Lightnin’ Hopkins, Li’l Son Jackson, Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Snooks Eaglin, and Slim Harpo, and some more modern N’Awlins Rock’n'Roll, Chicago Blues and R&B, and bluesy Honky Tonk-the cowboy side of blues. Sometimes I do casual electric gigs with different bands around town. Visit Joel’s website on MySpace.

Mike Allyn

Mike-AllynCovering anyone from Bob Dylan to Dire Straits, from Fleetwood Mac to Snow Patrol, from the Beatles to the Eagles to ZZ Top, from Elvin Bishop to the Righteous Brothers, the Hollies to Garth Brooks, these two very talented artists DELIVER THE GOODS!!!!  Listen to our Demos, which are recorded LIVE right off our mixer. Visit the Dueling Mikes website on MySpace.

Victor Andrada

December 18, 2009 • by Cafe Malaga

Victor-AndradaThe Irving based Andrada’s music can be best described as Latin infused acoustic jazz that contains hints of folk and Tejano music. His guitar work on this album is breath taking, so clean and precise. What I did find odd was that for someone who is such a virtuoso on the guitar, Andrada is content to allow his playing to merely supply respite to his powerful vocal work. There is no showing off by Andrada on this record, and by being so subtle, he actually showcases the full range of his talents. However, if you listen closely to “Between the Lines,” “Vacio Sin Ti” and “Special Times,” and you will get a good idea of just how capable Andrada is with the guitar. Visit Victors website on MySpace.
